SUMMARY:2013 Dominican Republic Medical Mission Trip
DESCRIPTION:<►>\n			\n	\n\n\n\nBy: Shelly Enders \nHave you ever thought\, “What if you woke up today with only the things that you thanked God for yesterday?” This resonates with me daily.  Before leaving for the Dominican Republic early on the morning of November 10\, I was extremely grateful for everything in my life. I did not really think a visit to Bateys in the Dominican Republic was needed to make me recognize my blessings. \nLong story short\, I was wrong. I was not completely prepared for what was the lack of access to adequate\, basic health care. While I knew I was going to be entering underserved areas of the DR\, it was not until I was immersed in the Bateys that I truly had an appreciation for the small things\, what would be considered luxuries in the Bateys\, that we are blessed with daily. Clean water\, a mattress\, toothpaste\, Band-Aids – things you most likely have at your fingertips in your home. Our medical team served diligently providing vitamin A\, medicines to prevent tapeworm\, and more patient-specific care for dental\, eye and medical needs. The services we provided may seem rather basic and tangible as you read this\, but we were likely answering prayers for many of the people we served. A pair of reading glasses\, a medication\, a toothbrush\, a Bible – all a whisper from God that he was and is present in the Bateys. \nServing on the 2013 Pujols Family Foundation Medical Mission Team in this capacity was an invaluable experience in faith\, family\, community\, and culture. I wasn’t quite sure\, and honestly a little afraid\, as to why God was prodding me toward this team of wonderful\, hard-working\, and compassionate people. Thank you Lord\, for making our paths cross. \nTo The Pujols Family Foundation\, I have yet to find adequate words expressing my gratitude for the opportunity to serve with you. The small act of serving as the team’s pharmacist tendered my heart to do more. Receiving your call to dispense God’s love and presence has moved me\, and I continue to receive far more than I gave. God is in us\, God is with us\, and God is for us. \nWarm Regards\,\nShelly \nShelly Enders served as the team’s pharmacist for the 2013 PFF Medical Mission Trip. The team served the communities of Batey Palave\, Batey Bienvenido\, Batey Ondonada\, & Batey Aleman between Nov. 10-16\, 2013 and treated over 1000 patients. This was Shelly’s first time serving on the PFF team. She joined a team of 23 people dedicated to serving the impoverished people in the DR.
