SUMMARY:Spoonful of Sugar
DESCRIPTION:By: Kelly Quinn \nThe Muny is a magical place where spectacular musical performances have been brought to life on stage in an open-air amphitheater since 1919. For 95 years The Muny has not only been a St. Louis landmark\, but also a summertime tradition for generations of St. Louisans. So it was extra special to share Cameron MacKintosh’s “Mary Poppins” with 120 guests of the Pujols Family Foundation at The Muny. \nThe July 29th evening started off with a tour of The Muny\, which welcomes approximately 11\,000 guests to each of the seven musical performances showcased each season. Among those are 1\,500 free seats that are open to the public on a first come\, first serve basis. From the amphitheater looking onto the stage\, it is clear there is not a bad seat in the house! \nAs we made our way through the seats to backstage\, we learned more details about famous performers whom have graced the stage\, when & where upcoming shows schedule times to practice in the middle of the night. Walking behind the set & onto the main stage\, our guests were wowed by the numerous props & backdrop pieces that are designed & created to bring the performance to life. While exploring we found out fun facts such as the beautiful trees onstage are almost 130 years old & have been part of every set design for 95 seasons\, as well as River Des Peres runs below The Muny grounds. \nEach twist & turn of the tour was building the excitement for the main attraction of the evening\, “Mary Poppins.” After distributing tickets everyone made their way to their seats\, the house lights dimmed and the show began with the eruption of music from the orchestra pit. This 1964 Disney classic was re-invented igniting the child in all of us. While sitting among our PFF guests\, the simplistic joy resonating through the crowd during songs like “Spoonful of Sugar” and “Jolly Holiday” reminded me of the same joy each individual with Down syndrome brings to the PFF. We thank The Muny for this “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” evening.
