Batey Baseball/Nest Evaluation Trip to Dominican Republic
March 1, 2010
During the last week of February, the Pujols Family Foundation took a short fact-finding mission to the Dominican Republic to prepare for two major initiatives this summer. The first is Batey Baseball. This program is brand new for 2010 and is directly from the heart of Albert Pujols. Batey Baseball is a joint venture with the PFF, Compassion International and the community of Batey Aleman. “We are not trying to find Major League Baseball players here,” says Albert Pujols. “Our goal, through the Batey Baseball program, is to share our faith and to teach responsibility, teamwork and leadership to these young men,” Pujols continues. “And hopefully, inspire a group of potential community leaders through the game of baseball.”
The other focus of this trip was to introduce the non-profit organization ‘Nest’ to the community of Batey Aleman. “Nest is an amazing organization who makes micro-business loans to women in developing countries to create vocational skills and actual products for the U.S. market,” says Todd Perry, Executive Director of the Pujols Family Foundation.
The Nest team consisted of Nest Executive Director and Founder Rebecca Kousky, with board members Nick and Angie Bellon. “We were very encouraged with the information Nest had gathered. I truly think we can work together to make a huge difference in this Batey,” says Perry.
Both Batey Baseball and the Nest project are scheduled to launch during the Summer of 2010.
