Fathers and Sons Strike Out For A Night of Bowling

August 4, 2013

By: Emily DuBois

On Sunday, August 4, 2013, the Pujols Family Foundation and Brunswick Zone in Chesterfield hosted over 200 participants in its sixth Hitters & Splitters Father Son Bowling event. To the delight of fathers and sons who had come to look forward to this event, Hitters & Splitters made a grand return after a two year hiatus, bringing families together for a lively night of bowling, food, and friendship.

The night offered the chance for old friends to reconnect and for new friendships to form as fathers and sons took to the lanes to show off their bowling skills. Smiles and laughter filled the alley as the evening kicked off with pre-bowling food and activities. It didn’t take long for the boys to locate the Papa John’s pizza, Coldstone Creamery ice cream, McAlister’s Deli cookies, and the nacho bar provided by Hard Rock Café.

While participants waited for their lane partners to arrive, many fathers and sons took advantage of the complimentary arcade play to shoot some basketballs and play a quick game of air hockey. Many also hopped in the photo booth provided by The Photo Booth Doctor, donned in goofy accessories like hotdog hats, big ears, and giant glasses to take home a keepsake photo strip of the memorable night. Mike Geerlof with Way Cool Balloons crafted incredible, twisted balloon creations of anything from Mario to monkeys climbing trees that truly wowed our guests!

As the bowling began, fathers and sons reunited with familiar faces and welcomed new participants to their lanes. Everyone settled in with their food and drink and the real fun began! Participants as young as 5 and as old as 51 laced up their bowling shoes and hit the lanes. While bowling was certainly the main attraction, fathers and sons cherished the time to spend with each other, catching up with friends and getting excited about future events with the Pujols Family Foundation. When the lights went down for cosmic bowling and the dance tunes came on, many boys entered the aisles, showing off their dance moves in preparation for the annual Autumn Prom.

Overall, the event was a very exciting, fun-filled evening and no one was ready for the night to end! As everyone packed up and prepared to head home, each guest received a gift bag with Harry & David Moose Munch, a Pujols #5 hat and athletic shirt, a 2011 World Series DVD, a Gamewear baseball bracelet, and many other items.

Friends, volunteers, and staff exchanged hugs and goodbyes. As the night came to an end, it was clear just how much this Hitters & Splitters event meant to our fathers and sons. Not only was it a perfect opportunity to have a guys night out with friends; it was also a great event for our fathers and sons to spend one-on-one time with each other, showcasing their talent and learning from each other.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the following people for their valuable contributions that made this event a great success: Brunswick Zone in Chesterfield, Papa John’s Pizza, Hard Rock Café, McAlister’s Deli, Cold Stone Creamery, The Photo Booth Doctor, Way Cool Balloons, Harry & David, McDonald’s, Stir Crazy, Chick-Fil-A, Gamewear, Missouri History Museum, Mercy Ministries, and all of our wonderful volunteers!
