Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame

July 18, 2013

By: Emily DuBois

On Thursday, July 18th, 2013 the Pujols Family Foundation in partnership with the Missouri History Museum hosted fathers and sons at the “Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame” exhibit. This fun and educational event gave dads and their sons a perfect opportunity to bond over one of America’s great past times: football.

The 6,000 square-foot exhibit features memorabilia from all-time greats to contemporary stars, including over 200 football artifacts, rare photos, and one-of-a-kind documents from the Pro Football Hall of Fame collections. Participants saw everything from vintage footballs and pads to jerseys from present-day stars and modern technology used in the game today.

The biggest hits of the exhibit were the many interactive displays spread throughout the room, which encouraged everyone to more deeply explore the intricacies of the game. Fathers and sons alike flexed their muscles alongside life-size molds of some of the NFL’s biggest biceps, and stepped into hollowed leg molds of some of the largest players in the game including Leonard Davis, Gilbert Brown, and Jerome Bettis. Participants were even able to experience how the greatest quarterbacks of all time mastered their perfect spirals.

One of the fan favorites at the Gridiron Glory exhibit was an interactive NFL replay booth. Participants stepped into the curtained booth where they were greeted by an NFL official who detailed the process an official goes through in making calls with instant replay technology. Fathers and sons were then presented with notoriously difficult calls from actual NFL games and given sixty seconds to utilize various camera angles and film speeds to either confirm or overturn the ruling on the field. For participants, it was a great opportunity to experience what goes on behind closed curtains at the field on game day.

The pinnacle of the event was the Champions Ring, which documented the path to the Super Bowl and all its triumphs and heartaches. Featuring countless highlights from NFL super bowls both old and new, fathers and sons watched in awe as they saw top playoff plays and big game changers play out before their eyes on 360° of big screen TVs. Participants also enjoyed seeing the Vince Lombardi trophy in all its shining glory.

As all of the participants made their way through the exhibit, you could hear the laughs and see the smiles on everyone’s faces. Being able to have the exhibit all to themselves for the night, made their time even more special. The evening was certainly a dream come true for football-loving fathers and sons!
