June 6, 2010
The Radio Television Digital News Association recently announced the winners of the 2010 National Edward R. Murrow Award, honoring excellence in electronic journalism.
WGRZ-TV of Buffalo, New York was named a winner in Video Sports Reporting, for a story titled ‘Sports Hero’.
The story documents the events of August 5, 2009 when a fan named Tim Tepas fell out of the stands during a baseball game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates.
As relayed in the news story, Albert Pujols ran from his fielding position to assist the fan, remaining with Tepas until he could be carried off the field on a stretcher.
Albert then comforted Tepas’ son, who has Down syndrome and was at the game for his 21st birthday.
The Pujols Family Foundation congratulates WGRZ on the receipt of this prestigious award.
