Albert Pujols is a renowned Dominican-American baseball player. In 2005, he launched the Pujols Family Foundation to support families affected by Down’s Syndrome in the USA and, separately, to help underprivileged Haitian migrants struggling to make ends meet in the Dominican Republic. As a father to a daughter with Down’s Syndrome and a migrant himself, these are issues that have affected Pujols directly. Todd Perry discussed these two important topics. 

Each year, 6,000 children are born with Down’s Syndrome in the USA. Most are unemployed and spend their waking lives watching TV or staring at a computer screen. Todd explained that The Pujols Family Foundation offers a multitude of programs which focus on socialization. One of these is our prom; the St. Louis prom is an opportunity for around 750 people with Down’s Syndrome to meet and make friends.

Ending The Cycle Of Poverty

Many Haitian immigrants come to the Dominican Republic chasing the promise of better jobs and a better life. But they often find themselves exploited and dependent on their employer. The Pujols Family Foundation provides these Haitians with education, medical relief, and tangible goods to help them break free from legalized slavery.
